Rutger is deeply fascinated by the interplay between complexity and simplicity in design. He believes that while complexity may be unnecessary, simplicity is never truly simple, and it is this paradox that drives his passion for problem-solving. He is continually intrigued by the process of distilling intricate ideas into clear, elegant solutions, which leads him to explore new methods of creating spaces that are both ambitious and achievable.

He holds a Diploma in Architectural Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and a Master of Science in Building Technology from Delft University of Technology. This academic background has equipped him with a solid foundation in conceptual design, digital fabrication, and sustainable construction strategies

His professional journey includes eight years of experience working abroad with prestigious international firms such as Benthem Crouwel Architects and UNStudio in Amsterdam. At UNStudio, he advanced to the role of Associate Architect, where he led the design of diverse projects worldwide, varying in scale and complexity. During this time, he developed a design methodology that seamlessly integrates innovation with practicality.

In 2023, driven by his passion for collaboration and the exchange of ideas, he sought to create a dynamic environment where experimentation, learning, and innovation could thrive. Believing in the value of working alongside other creative architects and evolving together, he returned to Greece to establish Studio SPACECRAFT Architecture, a practice dedicated to expanding the possibilities of contemporary design.
